Mallorca has been and still is a haven of peace and tranquility, balance of land and sea, witness art and cultures throughout history. The island presents a potpourri of influences due to various civilizations and artists who occupied it. Prehistoric remains, Roman remains... But leaving the past behind and emerging from the most innovative minds in the moment, the modern and contemporary art have a place in the museum es Baluard.
The museum building is defined by simple lines, respecting the environment and heritage medieval fort that surrounds it, combining the traditional elements with the modern ones. Located in the bay of Palma and near the stream of La Riera, the museum can be enjoyed even before entering it. The permanent collection consists of 109 works that have some relation to the Balearic Islands. Names of major international artists such as Dalí, Joan Miró, Picasso, Sorolla are mixed with the talent of the islands as Toni Catany, Miquel Barceló, among many others. In this collection are added the temporary collections, samples of the newest art, either installation, painting, sculpture, photography, video ... Art knows no limits, so Es Baluard combine exhibitions where reigns the aesthetic and artistic experience with stories that reflect the purest reality. After walking around the museum, nothing better than relaxing in the restaurant and lounge upstairs. From the large terrace you can have a coffee or a nice cold drink to regain strength.The museum offers a masterpiece of inestimable value: the panoramic view of the bay of Palma, on the left Mallorca Cathedral, right the Santa Catalina neighborhood, and always all bathed bye the Mediterranean Sea. You can visit the museum from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 to 20 hours or on Sunday from 10 to 15 hours.
